American combat engineers and infantry used several types of mine detector throughout the Second World War, most notably the SCR-625 — a lightweight, reliable instrument that became standard issue for mine clearance operations from North Africa through to the final advances into Germany. Mine detection was painstaking, dangerous work: operators moved slowly forward on hands and knees, sweeping the detector head in careful arcs, relying on headphones and judgement to distinguish a buried mine from metallic debris in battle-scarred ground. MiniArt's set provides U.S. mine detectors and associated equipment in accurate 1/35 scale, adding the kind of authentic engineer detail that grounds a diorama in operational reality.
