The United States Marine Corps operated tanks in the Pacific theatre from Guadalcanal onwards, using M3 Stuarts and later M4 Shermans in the brutal close-terrain fighting of island-hopping campaigns where armour faced jungle, bunkers, and an enemy that would fight to the last man. USMC tank crews in the Pacific developed their own distinct character — a combination of Army-standard equipment, Marine Corps culture, and the improvised adaptations of men fighting in extreme heat and humidity.
