The Halberstadt CL.II was the German Air Service's standard two-seat escort and ground attack aircraft in the latter half of the First World War — a nimble, compact biplane that proved highly effective in the close support role during the German spring offensives of 1918. Operating with the Schlachtstaffeln (battle squadrons), CL.IIs flew low-level attacks against Allied troops and strongpoints with machine guns and hand-dropped grenades, developing the ground attack tactics that would be refined into the Ju 87 Stuka operations of the next war. Schusta/Schlasta 27b was one of the specialist ground attack units equipped with the CL.II, and Mirage Hobby's 1/48 kit captures the middle production batch variant with the rigging detail and surface texture that WWI biplane modellers expect.
