The Vickers 6-ton Type A — better known as the Vickers E Mk A — was one of the most influential tank designs of the interwar period, exported to and licence-built by more countries than almost any other tank of the 1930s. Its twin-turret configuration, with two machine-gun-armed turrets mounted side by side in the hull, was the original Vickers concept before the single-turret Type B was developed. Poland, the Soviet Union, Bolivia, Bulgaria, China, and several other nations purchased or copied the design, and the Soviet T-26 — itself built in enormous numbers — was a direct development of it. The Vickers E effectively defined what a light infantry tank should look like for an entire generation of military planners, making it one of the most important tank designs in history despite rarely appearing in British service itself.
