The Panzer IV Ausf. D in its Blitzkrieg in the West configuration represents the type as it appeared during the spectacular German campaigns of May–June 1940, when armoured columns swept through the Ardennes, crossed the Meuse at Sedan, and drove to the Channel coast in a ten-day operation that shattered Allied strategic plans. The Ausf. D was the most numerous Panzer IV variant in these campaigns, and while its short 7.5cm gun limited its ability to penetrate British and French heavy tank armour frontally, the pace and coordination of German armoured operations rendered conventional anti-tank defence largely ineffective. The specific markings and campaign setting of this Mirage Hobby kit — France and the Low Countries, May–June 1940 — give it a vivid historical identity within the wider Panzer IV family.
Six weeks that changed Europe — the Panzer IV D during the Fall of France.
