The M3A1 Stuart in its late Pacific configuration represents a significantly different operational context from the North African and European theatres where Stuarts also served. In the Pacific, the M3A1's 37mm gun was effective against the relatively lightly armoured Japanese tanks it encountered, and its mechanical reliability was valued in the tropical conditions of island campaign logistics. By 1943 the Stuart had been in combat in the Pacific for over a year, and late production vehicles incorporated a number of detail changes including the removal of the turret cupola and the elimination of the hull-side sponson machine guns in favour of a cleaner silhouette. Mirage Hobby's 1/72 kit captures these late-production Pacific-specific features and markings, making it a distinct and useful counterpart to early-war and European-theatre Stuart kits.
