The Junkers Ju 87D-5 was a development of the famous Stuka optimised for close air support on the Eastern Front, with lengthened wings to improve low-speed handling under heavy bomb loads and strengthened to carry larger weapons than earlier variants. The D-5/N was a nocturnal adaptation, fitted with exhaust flame dampers and modified cockpit lighting for night attack operations — a role the Stuka adopted on the Eastern Front from 1943 as daylight operations became increasingly hazardous for the slow, vulnerable dive-bomber. Special Hobby’s kit covers both variants with decal options for night-attack markings across this less commonly modelled late-war chapter of the Stuka’s career.
