The M114 Command and Reconnaissance Vehicle was the US Army’s primary armoured reconnaissance vehicle from the late 1950s into the 1970s — a light, fully tracked vehicle designed to operate ahead of the main force gathering intelligence and directing fire, small enough to be air-transportable but armoured enough to survive the battlefield’s hazards. The M114A1 introduced an improved armament fit and minor detail changes over the original M114; the type served with US forces in Vietnam and with numerous NATO allies through the Cold War period. Takom’s 1/35 kit covers a vehicle that has been underrepresented in the mainstream catalogue relative to its historical importance — a useful addition for anyone building Cold War US or NATO dioramas.
