The Suzuki GSX1100S Katana is one of the most influential motorcycle designs in history — Hans Muth's Target Design study of 1980 that threw away every convention of Japanese motorcycle styling and produced something that looked like nothing else on the road, with its angular fairing, stepped seat, low handlebars, and the nameplate that referenced the Japanese sword. The Katana's appearance at the Cologne Motor Show in 1980 caused a sensation, and its combination of 1100cc four-cylinder performance with avant-garde styling made it an instant icon that has never really gone out of fashion. Tamiya's 1/12 kit of the GSX1100S is the classic early-1980s tooling, capturing every detail of the original Katana in the scale that does it full justice.
