The Panzerkampfwagen II was Germany’s most numerous tank at the outbreak of the Second World War, used in the Polish campaign, France, and the opening stages of Barbarossa in a reconnaissance and infantry support role that its modest 20mm cannon and thin armour were never entirely suited for. The Ausf. F and G were the final production variants, incorporating lessons from earlier marks with improved armour and detail changes. By 1942 the Panzer II was being steadily withdrawn from front-line tank units but continued in service as a reconnaissance vehicle throughout the war. Tamiya’s 1/35 kit covers both variants in one box.
