The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. L was the definitive mid-war variant of Germany’s medium tank, up-armoured and up-gunned from the earlier marks with the long 5cm KwK 39 L/60 that gave it a meaningful anti-tank capability and additional spaced armour on the turret front and hull. The Ausf. L served on the Eastern Front and in North Africa from 1942, and while it was already being superseded by the Panzer IV as the Wehrmacht’s primary medium tank it remained in front-line service until late in the war. Tamiya’s 1/35 kit is a well-proven tooling of this important mid-war variant.
