The M4A3E2 Assault Tank — nicknamed the Jumbo — was a purpose-built assault variant of the Sherman produced in 254 units for the Normandy campaign, fitted with additional armour plate on the hull and turret that brought frontal protection to a level broadly equivalent to the Tiger I. Slower than the standard Sherman due to the extra weight, the Jumbo was used to lead assaults on fortified positions and proved its worth in the Siegfried Line fighting and the Ardennes. Its distinctive thick-turret silhouette makes it one of the most recognisable Sherman variants, and Tamiya’s 1/35 kit is a definitive rendering of this uncommon but important vehicle.
