The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 was the Emil in its Battle of Britain configuration — the variant that fought Fighter Command over southern England in the summer of 1940, its Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine, two engine-mounted cannon, and two wing-mounted cannon giving it a firepower advantage over the eight-gun Spitfires and Hurricanes it encountered. The E-3 represents the Bf 109 at the height of its early-war dominance, before the introduction of the Spitfire Mk.V and the growing weight of Allied fighter production began to erode Germany's qualitative edge. Tamiya's 1/48 Bf 109E-3 is one of the finest Emil kits available in any scale.
