The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4/7 Trop was the Emil in its North African configuration — the tropical filter fitted over the supercharger intake to protect the engine from the pervasive desert sand, and the personal equipment and survival gear required for operations in the Western Desert with JG 27 and other Luftwaffe units supporting Rommel's Afrika Korps. The E-4/7 sub-variant introduced an improved engine and detail changes over the earlier E-4, and the combination of desert markings and the distinctive tropical filter makes it one of the most visually attractive Emil configurations. Tamiya's 1/48 kit covers this specific variant with full Trop equipment and marking options.
