The German battlecruiser Gneisenau was one of the Kriegsmarine's two Scharnhorst-class capital ships — fast, well-armoured, and armed with nine 28cm guns in three triple turrets. Operating in company with her sister Scharnhorst, Gneisenau participated in the Norwegian campaign, the sinking of HMS Glorious, Atlantic commerce raiding, and the audacious Channel Dash of February 1942 before being put out of action by bombing and ultimately scuttled at Gdynia. This early Waterline boxing is supplied without decals, making it a useful basis for custom marking schemes. Tamiya's 1/700 kit captures her in her operational Atlantic configuration.
