The German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen was one of the Kriegsmarine's most active and fortunate major surface vessels — escorting Bismarck on her ill-fated final sortie in May 1941, surviving the destruction of her consort, making the audacious Channel Dash in February 1942, and ending the war as the only major German warship to survive substantially intact. Armed with eight 20.3cm guns in four twin turrets and fast enough to evade most threats she could not fight, Prinz Eugen represented the best of German heavy cruiser design. After the war she was used as a target ship in the Bikini Atoll atomic tests and sank in 1947. Tamiya's 1/700 Waterline kit captures her in her wartime configuration.
