HMS Repulse was a Renown-class battlecruiser that paid the ultimate price for operating without air cover in the age of the aircraft carrier — sunk alongside HMS Prince of Wales by Japanese land-based torpedo bombers off the Malayan coast on 10 December 1941, just three days after Pearl Harbor, in the first demonstration that capital ships without fighter protection were fatally vulnerable to air attack. Repulse had served throughout the First World War and the interwar period, and her loss alongside the brand-new Prince of Wales shocked the British establishment and signalled the end of the battleship's dominance at sea. Tamiya's 1/700 Waterline kit captures Repulse in her 1941 configuration.
