The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb covers the most widely produced Spitfire variant in one of its two key configurations — the standard temperate scheme fighter of Fighter Command's Channel Front operations, and the Vb Trop with its Vokes tropical filter fitted for service in the Western Desert and Malta. The cannon-armed Vb was the aircraft that equipped most RAF and Commonwealth fighter squadrons through 1941 and 1942, and its service across so many theatres and with so many nations — from the USAAF's Eagle Squadrons to the RAAF and RCAF — gives the builder an enormous range of marking options. Tamiya's 1/72 kit captures both variants with accurate detail and clean panel lines.
