USS Seawolf SSN-21 was designed as the US Navy’s answer to the Soviet Akula class — the most capable and expensive attack submarine ever built, with eight 660mm torpedo tubes capable of firing the full range of US submarine weapons, a speed of over 35 knots submerged, and a quieting specification that made her significantly less detectable than the Los Angeles class she was designed to replace. Cost and the end of the Cold War limited production to just three boats, making the Seawolf class the rarest and most capable submarines in the US Navy. Trumpeter’s 1/144 kit captures the distinctive Seawolf hull form with its large sail and forward-set diving planes.
