HMS Colombo was a C-class light cruiser converted into an anti-aircraft cruiser for the Second World War — her original 6-inch guns replaced with high-angle armament to provide dedicated fleet air defence in a period when the Royal Navy was acutely aware of the threat posed by air attack to surface warships. She served in the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean, and the anti-aircraft cruiser conversion programme that produced Colombo and her sisters represented an important operational response to the lessons of early naval air warfare. Trumpeter’s 1/350 kit provides a large-scale model of this specialised conversion, a detailed treatment of an unusual and historically interesting vessel.
