HMS Naiad was a Dido-class light cruiser — one of the Royal Navy’s dedicated anti-aircraft cruisers of the Second World War, armed with ten 5.25-inch dual-purpose guns in five twin turrets optimised for both surface and anti-aircraft fire. Naiad served in the Mediterranean Fleet during some of the most intense naval and air operations of the war — the evacuation of Crete, the siege of Malta, and the sustained air attacks of 1941 that tested the anti-aircraft cruiser concept to its limits. She was sunk by the German submarine U-565 north of Mersa Matruh on 11 March 1942. Trumpeter’s 1/350 kit captures this elegant and purposeful anti-aircraft cruiser design.
