The German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper was the lead ship of her class — a conventional Treaty-era heavy cruiser design armed with eight 20.3cm guns, fast enough at 32 knots to evade most threats, and the most active German heavy surface unit of the early war period. She participated in the Norwegian campaign, made a sortie into the Atlantic, and operated in Norwegian waters before mechanical problems and fuel constraints increasingly limited her operations. Her 1941 configuration represents the ship at the period of her most active service, carrying the distinctive Kriegsmarine wartime paint scheme. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures Hipper in this operational configuration.
The Kriegsmarine’s most active heavy cruiser — Admiral Hipper 1941 in 1/700 scale.
