The German destroyer Z-21 Wilhelm Heidkamp was a Type 1936 destroyer — one of the large, heavily armed German destroyers whose 15cm guns gave them exceptional surface firepower at the cost of seakeeping in heavy weather. Z-21 served as the flotilla leader at the First Battle of Narvik on 10 April 1940, where five German destroyers were surprised in the fjord by five British H-class destroyers and a fierce close-range action resulted in heavy losses on both sides. Z-21 was sunk in the engagement. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures this Kriegsmarine destroyer in her 1940 Norwegian campaign configuration.
