HMS Hood was the largest warship in the world for two decades after her commissioning in 1920 — the “Mighty Hood” that showed the flag on world cruises throughout the interwar years and embodied British naval prestige to the public. Her destruction on 24 May 1941, when a salvo from Bismarck penetrated her magazines and blew her apart in less than three minutes with the loss of all but three of her 1,418 crew, was one of the most shocking single losses of the naval war. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures Hood in her 1941 configuration — the modernised but still fundamentally First World War-era battlecruiser that met her end in the Denmark Strait.
The pride of the Royal Navy — HMS Hood 1941 in 1/700 scale.
