HMS Malaya was a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship paid for by the Federated Malay States as a gift to Britain at the outbreak of the First World War, serving at Jutland and throughout the interwar period before taking an active role in the Second World War escorting Atlantic convoys and serving in the Mediterranean. By 1943 she had received the substantial anti-aircraft upgrades that characterise her late-war appearance — a forest of Bofors and Oerlikon guns replacing the lighter armament of her earlier configuration. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures Malaya in her 1943 convoy escort configuration.
