HMS Queen Elizabeth was the name ship of Britain’s most powerful class of First World War battleships — the 15-inch-gunned fast battleships that formed the backbone of the Grand Fleet at Jutland and continued in front-line service through the Second World War after extensive modernisation. In 1941 she was based at Alexandria with the Mediterranean Fleet, and on 19 December 1941 was severely damaged by Italian frogmen who attached limpet mines to her hull in Alexandria harbour — the Decima MAS raid that put both Queen Elizabeth and Valiant out of action simultaneously. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures her in her 1941 Mediterranean configuration.
