HMS Renown was the more extensively modernised of the two Renown-class battlecruisers — reconstructed between 1936 and 1939 to a degree that effectively made her a new ship, with a new superstructure, improved protection, new machinery, and vastly augmented anti-aircraft armament. By 1945 she represented the most capable battlecruiser in the Royal Navy, having served in the Norwegian campaign, Force H in the Mediterranean, and as a fast escort for Churchill’s conference voyages across the Atlantic. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures Renown in her final 1945 configuration — the heavily modified, well-armed ship that ended the war in the Far East with the British Pacific Fleet.
