HMS Valiant was one of the Queen Elizabeth-class fast battleships — modernised between the wars with improved anti-aircraft armament and new fire control systems, she served throughout the Second World War in the Mediterranean Fleet and briefly in the Eastern Fleet. Her 1939 configuration represents the ship as completed after the pre-war refit that brought her up to the standard she maintained in the early war years. Together with her sister Queen Elizabeth she was disabled in the December 1941 Italian frogman attack at Alexandria, and returned to service after repairs to fight on to the war’s end. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures Valiant in her 1939 configuration.
