The Fen Dou Zhe — “Striver” — is China’s full ocean depth manned submersible, capable of diving to the maximum depth of any ocean at 10,909 metres. In November 2020 it successfully dived to the bottom of the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench with three crew aboard, making China only the third nation in history to achieve a crewed full ocean depth dive after the USA and Japan. The Striver represents the current pinnacle of Chinese deep-sea technology and one of the most capable manned submersibles in existence. Trumpeter’s 1/72 kit captures this remarkable vehicle at a scale where its compact and heavily engineered design can be fully appreciated.
