The Shen Hai Yong — “Deep Sea Warrior” — is China’s second-generation deep-sea manned submersible, capable of operating at 4,500 metres and designed as the successor to Jiaolong for routine scientific research operations in China’s offshore waters and the wider Pacific. More capable than Jiaolong in terms of scientific payload and endurance at depth, the Deep Sea Warrior entered operational service in 2017 and has conducted extensive geological, biological, and resource surveys of the deep seabed. Trumpeter’s 1/72 kit captures this important Chinese deep-sea research vehicle in accurate external detail.
