The BT-7 series of Soviet fast tanks were the backbone of the Red Army’s armoured force before the T-34 arrived in quantity — Christie-suspension vehicles capable of high road speed that embodied Soviet deep battle doctrine of the 1930s. The self-propelled gun variant of the BT-7 adapted the fast tank chassis to carry artillery, part of the Soviet experimentation with armoured fire support that characterised the interwar period. BT-7s were committed in enormous numbers in the catastrophic early battles of Operation Barbarossa in 1941 and were largely destroyed or captured, making the survivors increasingly rare as the war continued. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this Soviet SPG variant.
