The HBT-7 was a Soviet chemical tank — a BT-7 fast tank converted to carry and dispense chemical agents including smoke, incendiary, and potentially toxic substances — part of the Red Army’s doctrine of chemical warfare preparedness in the 1930s that included both offensive and defensive chemical vehicle development. Chemical tanks were a feature of the military doctrine of several nations in the interwar period before the practical and diplomatic difficulties of chemical warfare led to their gradual abandonment as frontline weapons, though the vehicles remained in service for smoke-laying and incendiary roles. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this unusual and rarely modelled Soviet specialist vehicle.
