The S.Sp heavy antiaircraft railway car was a German Sonderwagen — a purpose-built armoured railway vehicle mounting heavy anti-aircraft guns for the protection of railway lines, key infrastructure, and supply convoys from Allied air attack on the Eastern and Western Fronts. German railway anti-aircraft systems ranged from simple platform-mounted guns to sophisticated armoured wagons like the S.Sp, which provided protection for the gun crew while traversing areas under air threat. Railway anti-aircraft vehicles are unusual and rewarding modelling subjects that represent the infrastructure warfare that underpinned every major campaign.
