The T-70M was the definitive production variant of the Soviet T-70 light tank — armed with a 45mm gun and protected by up to 60mm of armour, significantly better protected than the earlier T-60 it replaced, and the most capable Soviet light tank of the war. T-70s served in large numbers from 1942 onwards alongside the T-34, performing reconnaissance, flank protection, and infantry support roles where the larger tank was unavailable or unsuitable. The T-70M chassis also formed the basis for the SU-76 self-propelled gun that became the Red Army’s most-produced armoured vehicle. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures the definitive T-70M variant.
