The M36 Gun Motor Carriage was the most capable US tank destroyer of the Second World War — the 90mm gun that it carried could defeat the frontal armour of the Panther and Tiger I at combat ranges, remedying the weakness of the earlier M10 whose 76mm gun struggled against the increasingly thick armour of German vehicles encountered in northwest Europe from 1944. The M36 entered service in time for the Siegfried Line battles and served through to the end of the war, providing American tank destroyer battalions with a weapon that could engage any German armoured vehicle on equal or favourable terms. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this important US tank destroyer in compact small-scale form.
