The M36B2 was a variant of the M36 Gun Motor Carriage adapted to use the hull of the M4A3 Sherman rather than the M10 hull of the standard M36, created to maximise production of the urgently needed 90mm tank destroyer during the final year of the war in Europe. The B2 designation distinguishes it by the enclosed turret rear and the use of the Ford GAA engine rather than the twin diesel of the earlier variant. M36B2s served alongside standard M36s in tank destroyer battalions in northwest Europe and were also supplied to France, where they remained in service into the 1950s. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this Sherman-hulled tank destroyer variant.
