The M4A3 Sherman was the US Army’s preferred Sherman variant — powered by the Ford GAA V8 petrol engine developed specifically for tank use, it offered better power and reliability than the radial aero-engine of the M4A1 or the twin diesel of the M4A2. The M4A3 was used almost exclusively by US Army units rather than being exported under Lend-Lease, reflecting its status as the preferred production standard for American forces. It served on both the Western and Pacific Fronts in the final year of the war and formed the basis for several specialist variants including the M4A3E2 Jumbo and the M4A3E8 Easy Eight. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures the standard M4A3.
