The Sherman IC — a British designation for the M4A1 Sherman hull rearmed with the British QF 17-pounder anti-tank gun — was an interim Firefly variant using the cast hull M4A1 rather than the more common welded hull of the Sherman VC. The 17-pounder was the most powerful Allied anti-tank gun of the war, capable of penetrating the frontal armour of the Panther and Tiger at combat ranges, and its installation in the Sherman gave British and Commonwealth armoured units a vehicle that could engage German heavy armour on equal terms. Sherman Firefly variants of all hull types were in high demand and priority targets for German tank crews. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures the IC cast-hull Firefly variant.
