The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. E was one of the early production variants of Germany’s standard medium tank, notable as the first mark to introduce the torsion bar suspension that became standard on all subsequent Panzer IIIs and greatly improved cross-country performance over the earlier leaf spring arrangements. Ausf. E vehicles were armed with the 37mm KwK gun of the period and served in Poland and France before being upgunned or replaced by later variants. The Panzer III Ausf. E represents the German tank arm in its formative period, before combat experience drove the rapid development of heavier armament and protection. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this early torsion bar Panzer III.
