The BZ-38 was a Soviet aircraft refuelling tanker vehicle based on the ZIS-6 6x4 truck chassis, designed to provide mobile fuel replenishment to Red Army Air Force aircraft in the field. Airfield support vehicles of this type are often overlooked in modelling but were essential to the functioning of any air operation — without fuel trucks like the BZ-38 able to reach aircraft on forward airstrips, the combat potential of Soviet aviation could not be realised. The BZ-38 served throughout the war years, supporting the massive expansion of Soviet air power from 1942 onwards. UM Models’ 1/72 kit offers an unusual and diorama-friendly Soviet airfield support subject.
