The Sherman IIC was a British Firefly variant based on the M4A1 cast hull Sherman, fitted with the 17-pounder QF anti-tank gun that gave Allied armoured units the ability to defeat German Panther and Tiger armour at combat ranges. The “IIC” designation indicates the cast hull (C suffix) M4A1 variant (II in British nomenclature) armed with the 17-pounder. Firefly Shermans of all variants were considered priority assets by British and Commonwealth armoured commanders and were distributed throughout armoured regiments to provide each troop with at least one vehicle capable of engaging the heaviest German armour. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this important Firefly variant.
