The Grumman J2F Duck was a single-engine amphibious biplane that served the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard from the mid-1930s through the Second World War in utility, rescue, and reconnaissance roles — one of the most versatile and long-lived American amphibians of the era. The J2F-5 was the most produced variant, and the Coast Guard operated Ducks on search and rescue duties along the American coastline throughout the war. The Duck’s central float faired into the fuselage gave it an elegantly functional appearance that makes it one of the more characterful American aircraft of the period. Valom’s 1/72 kit captures the J2F-5 in US Coast Guard markings.
