The Handley Page Hampden was one of the RAF’s three main medium bombers of the early war years alongside the Whitley and Wellington — a distinctive twin-engine aircraft with an extraordinarily narrow fuselage that earned it the nicknames “Flying Suitcase” and “Flying Panhandle” from its crews. The Hampden flew with Bomber Command from the first night of the war, attacking targets across Germany and occupied Europe, and served in a torpedo-bomber role with Coastal Command attacking enemy shipping in the North Sea and Baltic. Valom’s 1/72 kit captures the P5 variant of this important and distinctive RAF medium bomber in accurate outline.
