The Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer was a short take-off and landing utility transport designed to operate from the smallest strips in the most difficult terrain — capable of lifting off and landing in under 200 yards, it served the RAF in Aden, Borneo, and the Far East in precisely the kind of counter-insurgency and jungle supply role where conventional transports could not operate. Its twin Alvis Leonides piston engines, high wing, and distinctive twin-boom configuration gave it an immediately recognisable appearance that made it one of the more distinctive RAF types of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Valom’s 1/72 kit captures the Twin Pioneer CC.Mk.1 in accurate outline for this unusual and rarely modelled RAF STOL transport.
