The Flakpanzer auf Fahrgestell Panther G — mounting a quadruple 20mm Flakvierling anti-aircraft system on the Panther hull — was one of several experimental anti-aircraft tank projects developed in the final year of the war as Allied air supremacy made armoured column movement increasingly hazardous. The Flakvierling’s four barrels could put up a formidable volume of fire against low-flying aircraft, and the Panther chassis provided the mobility to keep pace with armoured formations. Only a small number of these vehicles were completed or proposed before the German collapse, making this one of the more exotic late-war German armoured subjects. Vespid Models’ 1/72 kit captures this unusual experimental Flakpanzer.
