The Panther Ausf.G was the most produced and most refined production variant of Germany’s best tank of the Second World War — incorporating lessons from earlier marks including a revised hull with a driver’s periscope replacing the vision port, improved engine deck, and other detail changes that accumulated from combat experience. This variant is further distinguished by the fitment of steel road wheels in place of the rubber-tyred type that became scarce in the final year of the war, and the addition of anti-aircraft armour protecting the turret roof against Allied fighter-bomber attack — a direct response to the threat of rocket and cannon-armed aircraft.
