The Mil Mi-1 was the Soviet Union’s first mass-produced helicopter — a four-seat light utility helicopter that entered service with the Soviet armed forces in 1950 and was exported to numerous Warsaw Pact and allied nations through the 1950s and 1960s. The Mi-1 established the Mil design bureau’s helicopter manufacturing expertise that would go on to produce the Mi-4, Mi-6, Mi-8, and Mi-24 — some of the most important rotary-wing aircraft ever built. The Mi-1 served in military utility, training, and agricultural roles and was licence-built in Poland as the SM-1. WK Models’ 1/72 kit offers this historically significant and rarely modelled Soviet helicopter in the scale suited to Cold War military diorama use.
