The Schnellboot S-38 class was among the most capable fast attack craft in the world during World War II, combining high speed, long range, and seakeeping that far exceeded Allied motor torpedo boats. Operating from bases in France, Norway, and the Baltic, S-boats preyed on East Coast convoys, participated in the tragic Exercise Tiger disaster of 1944, and conducted minelay operations throughout the war. This ForeArt 1/72 kit (1001) depicts the S-38 in its 1942 mid-war configuration with updated armament and fittings, and makes a natural companion to the 1940-configuration kit (1002).
