The Fiat G.55 Centauro was widely regarded by Luftwaffe test pilots as the finest Axis fighter of World War II — superior in many respects to the contemporary Bf 109G and Fw 190A. Powered by a licence-built Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine, it combined excellent high-altitude performance with strong armament and good handling. Entering service with the Regia Aeronautica in 1943, it saw combat in the defence of Italy before the armistice, and continued to fly with both the Italian Social Republic and the Co-Belligerent Air Force thereafter. This vintage Frog 1/72 kit (F216) is one of the few classic-era kits of this outstanding but overlooked fighter.
This is a vintage model kit. Box shows signs of age-related storage — see photos. Kit appears complete, but please look at the photos carefully. Instructions and decals are present.
