The Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk was the most numerous American fighter in service at the outbreak of the Pacific War, and while outclassed by the Japanese Zero in a turning dogfight, it was fast in a dive and extremely tough. It is best known for its service with the American Volunteer Group — the "Flying Tigers" — in China, whose sharks-mouth nose art became one of the most iconic images of the war. The RAF used the Tomahawk extensively in the Western Desert, where its performance at low and medium altitude suited the terrain well. This vintage Frog 1/72 kit (F428) captures the P-40's characteristic long nose and inline engine profile.
